I consider myself to be (mostly) an optimist. I have been thinking a lot about this lately. I think being an optimist is a lot like being a closer in baseball. I don’t know a lot about baseball, (I’m a cubs fan so that proves I don’t know baseball) but I have heard that the best weapon a closer can have is being able to forget what happened yesterday and believe that he can win every time he takes the mound. With that belief comes great risk and being an optimist takes great risk as well, but the alternative to me is untenable. You can’t win if you don’t risk losing.
This all came about because I was laughing to myself the other day thinking that “maybe I’m just too stupid to know when I’ve been beaten” then I realized that no, being able to forget my setbacks and press on is really the essence of optimism.
So I got that going for me…which is nice J
